Meet the Cast of Characters
Leda of the Gaia Order: Leda is a fire mage who was sold as an infant to the Reverend Mother of an Earth clan. She is loyal to her House even though they are not of her Element. Leda is an apothecary by trade.
Although Leda's Element is fire, she has a secondary gift—a dangerous gift. Leda can read auras. She can read lies, love or longing just by the color that surrounds your body.

Greyhawke Tams: Grey is a plainfolk savage. An ex-soldier turned scavenger, he is finally freed from military service and is returning to his farm for good. For a little extra money, he sometimes goes on salvage trips where he picks up many unusual artifacts. He's quite good at finding things. Not so good at keeping them. On one of his many archeological excursions he comes across a strange book he cannot read and a small statue of a mouse standing on its hind legs.
The book is stolen from him, but the mouse, he discovers, is called Meekee, the ancient god of merriment. He keeps Meekee as a good luck charm.
Meekee turns out more magical than he imagined.

Lady Ilia: Leda's Reverend Mother. Ilia is a sad woman. Her spirit broken, and a child stolen from her, she remains strong for the sake of her House and for those who serve it.
Lord Senosai : Evil incarnate. He is a man possessed. Senosai seeks the alchemist's bible that Grey once had in his possession. But he wants more than the book. When he discovers Leda's secret ability, he intends to own her too and make her his broodmare for life.

Trideus: A crazy hermit and mystic who may not be as insane as he pretends. Trideus has secrets of his own. He means to find the book first and destroy it before it destroys New Earth. The desert dwellers of the badlands regard him as a powerful shaman.

Seelie: Grey's neighbor. A silly teenager who dreams of becoming a skilled Water Elemental. Her father forbids it and Seelie takes matters into her own hands and throws her lot with Leda and Grey.
Leda can't stand the girl. Pity. She should have been nicer to her.

Liam: Sorrow runs in this young man's life. You could say he inherited his mother's bad luck.

Milke: Leda's mare, and the love of her life. Leda and Milke are inseparable.

Ghost: Grey's loyal horse. They are best buds.
